Redd+Deforestation and forest degradation are the second leading cause of global warming, responsible for about 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which makes the loss and depletion of forests a major issue for climate change. Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries and the role of sustainable forest management, forest conservation and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+) is one of the most cost-effective ways to lower emissions. REDD+ also has the potential to generate multiple non-carbon benefits related to the preservation of biodiversity, promotion of ecotourism, prevention of floods, improvement of water quality, preservation of cultural heritage etc. FOKABS is actively involved in providing a range of services on REDD+ from the international, continental, regional, country to local levels. We work with counterparts from the national and local governments, civil society, private sector, community organisations, non-governmental organisations, Universities and research institutions.
