The Lake Chad Basin is one of Africa’s most climate-vulnerable regions, home to millions of people who depend on fragile ecosystems. Communities, particularly women and youth, face heightened risks from climate change, including droughts, floods, and loss of biodiversity.

To address these challenges, the Lake Chad Basin Conservation project (a three-year initiative led by Alinea International with support from Global Affairs Canada aims to:

  • Strengthen climate resilience through nature-based solutions.
  • Rehabilitate and restore 10,000 hectares of wetlands and surrounding lands.
  • Enhance ecosystem services for more than 2 million people across six RAMSAR sites.
  • Promote gender-responsive and inclusive approaches, ensuring women and youth benefit directly from sustainable land and water management.

 

Fokabs’ Role

Fokabs delivers specialized expertise on climate finance capacity building by:

  • Designing and delivering training workshops on climate finance for government ministry staff in the project countries
  • Preparing tailored training content and agendas, ensuring relevance to national climate policy and financing needs.
  • Facilitating national workshops in Cameroon) and Chad.
  • Adapting monitoring and evaluation tools for participants to assess knowledge uptake.
  • Producing a final report consolidating workshop outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations for future climate finance strategies.
