Country: Sudan
Under the Africa Minigrids Program (AMP), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), this project aims to scale up commercial investment in renewable energy minigrids in Sudan. The specific objective is to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for pilot solar PV minigrids with battery storage in targeted off-grid communities in the Red Sea and Kassala States (Hayaa and Hamashkoreeb). The study will assess the retrofitting of existing diesel-based grids to improve electricity access, reduce fuel dependency, promote productive use of energy, and demonstrate innovative, cost-reducing business models.
Fokabs’ Role:
Conduct the end-to-end feasibility study. Our role encompassed leading a multidisciplinary team to:
- Perform detailed site and demand assessments through field missions;
- Develop preliminary and detailed technical designs for the solar PV minigrid systems;
- Conduct regulatory, economic, and financial analyses, including viability and tariff studies;
