Course Summary

Canada is currently facing a critical housing shortage, with a widening gap between the demand and supply of affordable, eco-friendly homes. Although digital technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) hold immense potential to address this crisis, their application in the housing sector remains largely untapped.

This workshop is designed to empower participants with knowledge, tools, and methodologies needed to harness the power of BIM and AI for the design and construction of affordable, sustainable housing. It will provide a strong theoretical foundation and demystify essential concepts related to BIM and digital construction technologies.

Building on valuable lessons and best practices from the European Union, particularly the UK, the workshop will include interactive, hands-on demonstrations to illustrate real-world applications of these technologies.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with actionable insights and contribute to the creation of a practical roadmap for implementing BIM and AI-driven solutions in housing projects. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between technological innovation and tangible, real-world impact, paving the way for a more sustainable and inclusive housing future in Canada.

Course Facilitator

The workshop will be led by Professor Henry Abanda, the Smart Green Building and City Lead at Fokabs Inc. With over 12 years of academic and industry experience, he has been at the forefront of integrating BIM and AI into construction practice. Henry has delivered BIM and AI training and consultancy services to universities and companies across multiple countries, including the UK, Spain, France, Canada, Germany, India, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, etc. His expertise spans sustainable building design, digital construction, and smart city development.

Henry holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics & Physics, a Diplôme d’Ingénieur in Civil Engineering, an MA in Monitoring & Evaluation, and a PGCert (Distinction) in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. He earned a PhD in Construction IT and an Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in Digital Construction Technology. Additionally, he is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
