Fokabs at UNFCCC COP 27
Sharm El-Sheikh – Egypt, 6th – 20th November 2022
The United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27 ended with a breakthrough agreement to provide “loss and damage” funding for vulnerable countries hit hard by climate disasters. Creating a specific fund for loss and damage was crucial moving forward and will now appear in future official agenda of COPs.
Overall, the Sharm el-Sheikh Implementation Plan highlights the needed investments of at least USD 4-6 trillion a year for a global transformation to a low-carbon economy.
In the margins of COP27, Fokabs and Eather supported a side event on the Central African Climate Action Transparency HUB project that involves 11 countries. The event was graced by the participation of 5 Ministers from the Central Africa Region and the opening speech of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The ICAT/UNOPS-funded project will continue for the next three years.
