Before joining FOKABS, Prof. Abanda was a Reader in Construction IT at the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University, UK. With an extensive academic background spanning multiple disciplines, his contributions to research and education have earned him international recognition.

• MA in Monitoring & Evaluation

Prof. Abanda is widely regarded as a leading expert in Building Information Modelling (BIM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Twins. His prolific research career includes over 135 publications, comprising 73 peer-reviewed journal articles, 44 conference papers, a book, book chapters, and technical reports. He has successfully supervised six PhD candidates and mentored over 200 MSc students, specializing in digital construction technologies and AI applications in the built environment.

Championing BIM Adoption & Global Outreach

A passionate advocate for BIM implementation, Prof. Abanda has played a crucial role in promoting its adoption across the globe. He has led international awareness campaigns, conducting workshops and lectures in over 12 countries across five continents, including Canada, the UK, Germany, Spain, France, India, Ecuador, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Ghana, and Ethiopia. His training initiatives have empowered over 180 construction professionals in the UK alone, equipping them with practical BIM skills for enhanced project management and efficiency.

Strategic Leadership in Green Building & Smart Cities

Beyond academia, Prof. Abanda is actively engaged in shaping digital transformation within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector. He serves as one of the five Strategic Advisors for BIM Africa, where he contributes to advancing digital technology adoption and regulatory frameworks in the industry. His work fosters innovation, sustainability, and resilience in urban development, positioning him as a key figure in green building and smart city evolution.
