The African Forest Forum within its “African Forests, People and Climate Change” project, is undertaking in-depth studies on implementation and progress made on REDD+, CDM, AFOLU INDC and voluntary carbon market-oriented activities covering various forest types. The generated information would in turn support development and/or strengthening sound adaptation and mitigation policies and measures associated with improving resilience of social and ecological systems.

Specific tasks of FOKABS were to:

• Analyse progress made on implementation of REDD+ and AFOLU initiatives
• Assess conditions and determinants of uptake of REDD+ initiatives.
• Evaluate challenges on development and implementation of REDD+.
• Examine how to make REDD+ sustainable in Africa.
• Analyse progress made on implementation of forest based CDM initiatives.
• Analyse voluntary carbon markets and other related AFOLU initiatives.
• Evaluate challenges on development and implementation of forest based CDM.
• Examine benefit sharing mechanisms within REDD+ and forest based CDM.
• Analyze legal, policies and institutional options for REDD+ and forest based CDM.
• Analyse AFOLU activities within the context of INDC of African countries.
• Provide appropriate key recommendations
